Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is a psychotherapy treatment method and therefore should be practiced by a psychiatrist, psychologist, or licensed psychotherapist certified in EMDR. The EMDR Association in the United States and the European EMDR Association in Europe have established strict criteria for the certification process of a clinician. In addition to basic psychotherapy training, the completion of a series of training sessions and supervision by a more experienced therapist are required for certification. The treatment of a single trauma suffered in everyday life (for example, a fire, an act of aggression, or a serious accident) takes generally fewer than 10 sessions. Sessions usually last up to 90 minutes. Fees vary from £35 to £70. The best way to identify an EMDR-certified psychotherapist in your area is to consult one of the reputable associations below.
